I think that briefly describing our posts on the previous blog will be a good place to start our discussions and allow us to debate the issues in greater detail. The subject of my previous blog was regarding the problems caused by virtual mobility. In the information and communication age the mobility of information is a vital part of our social, economic and political lives. However due to the nature of the world we live in there is a division between the digital ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’. The rate at which our technology and software is evolving means that it the gap is growing wider and may at some point become unbridgeable. In my post I put forward the following questions.
Is the digital divide a problem or is it ethnocentric to assume what we have is better than what other countries do not?
Can architecture funded by private enterprises who wish to exploit third world resources help to bridge the gap (i.e Abu Dhabi)?
The images on this blog are intended communicate the presence of the digital divide
